Wow, this morning it looked like we were going to get a storm and now the sun is shining and it has heated up! I'll probably get everyone fed and head outside for a while to enjoy the day. Was in the mood to make some cards, didn't have anything particular in mind so I checked out a few of my favourite challenge blogs:

Basic Grey Challenges & Cardvaarks

BG challenges had a fun sketch and I did want to use up some of my holiday paper (Figgy Pudding). I also used the theme from Cardvaarks which was: create a tree themed card. Not sure if I got that completely right but I have no tree stamps so that's the way I rolled with it.

I am going to be moving my blog, just need to get a few last things sorted out. I have decided to go with wordpress which I am hoping will be simpler to use than blogger. I know there are pros and cons to both, hoping wordpress is the better choice.

Cardmakers: if you haven't checked out the site you should do so now. I love the sketches and if you are into mass producing a card then this is certainly the site for you! Their sister site, Shortcuts, has some cool clear/frosted card bases and gift card holders for sale at a very reasonable price. And there is usually a chance at winning some free goodies, who doesn't love free goodies??

I am so happy it's Friday!! I haven't had a chance to do anything this week and I am eager to dig into some of the new goodies I have picked up in the past week or so. I did make a quick card tonight which I will post, then I am off to watch Ghost Whisperer. I don't watch a lot of TV in general, but there are so many shows I adore this year that it seems every night I am sitting down to watch one. On Tuesdays it is American Idol and Fringe, Wednesday is LOST and Criminal Minds, Thursday is Hell's Kitchen and Harpers Island, Friday is Ghost Whisperer and finally, Sunday is Amazing Race. Yesterday I saw an ad for So You Think You Can Dance - I am so excited!

Tammy left me some lovin' on her blog. I am supposed to nominate another 10 blogs and keep it going but I am no good at rules so I am just going to redirect everyone to Tammy's blog, it's the least I can do... ;) Go ahead, click on the blog award....

Here is a card I made using yet another Magnolia stamp. I am still trying to find a good cardstock for copics that won't cost me an arm and a leg to get shipped here. I was thinking of maybe the Stampin' Up cardstock, anybody have any suggestions where I can buy quality cardstock for Copics in Canada?

Long Weekend - Day 2

Spring has Sprung!

I hope! Woke up and the sun was shining. Took a look out the front window and green grass is clearly visible through the yellow stuff. I am so happy I raked all the dead stuff up last week, with all the rain we've had it's leaving my lawn look so nice. Now to tackle the backyard which looks like it is going to be quite the job to tackle. maybe I'll leave it for next week LOL.

Created this layout yesterday based on a sketch by Beck Fleck for the MME contest, so happy with the way it turned out. Used papers from the WRMK paper Pad "Teen Angst". No teenagers in this house, but the papers work well enough. The topic was "What's on my mind" and that theme worked perfectly with this picture because I love my sons eyes and his vision is something that is very important to us because he was born with Congenital Cataracts and also has Cortical Vision Impairment. So it is something that is always on my mind, whenever I look into his eyes.

Where do you go for inspiration? Some days I have no mojo and I like to go to a blog where I can be inspired to create. Some blogs/sites inspire by providing a sketch, a new technique to try or a yummy prize ... there are tons. It's a card day

I have been really busy (as usual) and so haven't scrapped a layout at all, not to mention that when I do finally find time I usually have no mojo left. That being said, I have been able to get a couple of cards made up:

The first is from a 1:1 spring/Easter card swap I was a part of over at Lil Scrappers. I added this beautiful Magnolia that Carla had stamped for me. Still looking to buy some for myself if I could find somewhere local (Canada) to buy them. I also tried a colouring technique using coloured pencils and odorless thinner.

This card was fun, I wanted to use some stamps I have hardly touched since buying (Technique Tuesday - Loves Me Still), and I got to use up some of my SR stash. The stamp in the middle is one of those $1.50 stamps from M's.

I want to work on some layouts this upcoming weekend, when I have the chance after hanging with the kids and raking my backyard..... Going to post up some blog candy too so try and pop by ;)

Rainy Sunday

Thank goodness I raked my front lawn yesterday when it was sunny! When I looked at the lawn this morning, I could already see green poking up through the yellow/brown dead stuff, woohoo!!

Anyhow, I agreed to do a CPS sketch with Carla. Hers absolutely rocks, check it out HERE. Meanwhile, I go check out sketch 109 and it does nothing for me..... not that I had much mojo left this evening anyhow. So, after several hours of fiddling with it (and a break to watch Amazing Race), this is what I come up with. I know it is not exactly like the sketch but this is where the "inspiration" led me....

Well, that passed too quickly, I'm not even ready for Monday yet...

It's going to bed a very quick post because it's late and I should be in bed.

Made a quick "masculine" birthday card using BG Periphery and played with my new Tim Holtz stamp(s). I stamped the clock on vellum and then gave it a spritz of glimmer mist (olive vine). I think it looks pretty good....

Another Saturday Night

.. and I have the will to scrap, but not the energy... what I really want to do is curl up on the couch and watch a movie or read my book. I got 3 new Cricut cartridges yesterday: Wildcard, Graphically Speaking and Storybook - EBay can be such a wonderful thing..... I only got to play briefly with Wildcard but it looks fantastic and I made this quick little notecard, took no time at all!

Can't believe the weekend is over already! I didn't get nearly as much accomplished as I wanted. I am going to browse through a few of my "inspiration" sites this week and see how many challenges I can complete.

I made this layout tonight, just a quick 8x8 with a random picture I snapped of Evan while I was foolin' with the camera. Used some October Afternoon papers and die cuts, Chatterbox and SR chipboard alphas and a Sakura Gelly Roll pen.

Finally!

Today was a mixed day for me. On the one hand, I finally got my furniture from Leons that I have been waiting for since January 3rd. We have been sitting on lawn chairs, which, after 2 months, are not very comfortable at all.... so this was my highlight.

On the downside, I was carrying the vacuum cleaner hose up the stairs, tripped on said hose, smashed my big toe into the riser and I think I broke it. Who breaks their toe falling up the stairs? Anyhow, it's swollen up and purple from the tip of my toe up the side of my foot - Yuck. Walking on it is no fun either.

No big plans for the weekend really, going to try and get this house organized just a little bit more (baby steps) and then try and scrap one layout and one card. That's the goal!

I created this layout with some paper I found at M's. It is called "Teen Angst" by WRMK and comes in a paper pad with some die cuts, alpha stickers and chipboard alphas. I don't have a teenager but I love the papers. There is a little "controversy" over this line because one sheet has the words "friggin sweet" on it. I'll still use the paper, just make sure that word is covered up, not a big deal for me.

I've been a busy mama. Having to set my clock an hour forward really annoyed me LOL.... I needed that hour!

Crazy Mother Nature

Just when I thought we might be inching our way into Spring (wishful thinking), the weather drops back to freezing. It's not that I hate winter, it's just that winter in Ontario is so grey and by February I can't help but wish for the sun and warmth of Spring weather....

Here is a layout I made for the Art Freckles "Trash your Stash" challenge. Got to use up some of my Cosmo Cricket pp and Daisy D rub-ons.

And here is my card based on the 2 Sketches 4 You sketch 19 by Laura, it's nothing fancy but a cute card for a kid and I got to use some more stash up, some old Bo Bunny paper.

Sunshine Through My Window

The sun is shining into my kitchen, I look out to the deck and it is all wet because the snow is melting!! Oh, PLEASE be a sign that this winter is coming to an end. I know it may be asking for much in February but I am so *ready* for spring.....

My sister gave birth to her third child the other day, a baby girl! I made this card for her based on sketch # 102 at CPS.

Superbowl Sunday

I get to listen to the superbowl as I scrap, could be worse I guess. Actually, I really did enjoy the halftime show and even took a break and sang along with Bruce Springsteen.

I created yet another card for the Caarvarks challenge (polka dots). I am having so much fun trying to use up my stash. I could create for a month and still not deplete my stash of BG, SR, MME or several other lines of paper.

It's almost midnight and my weekend is half over - ack! Didn't get much of a chance to scrap today but I did get one small layout done. It is based on this February 2009 PageMap sketch by Becky Fleck:

And here is my layout. I wanted to try a monochromatic layout and I think this worked out quite well. Being short of time (and a slow scrapper to boot) I have been keeping my layouts really simple; it seems to work well for this one.

Monday, Monday....

I want to scrap this week! Hopefully my schedule will allow me some time to do that. My scrappin' resolution (if you want to call it that) is to use up my stash. Seriously. I have hoarded paper that dates back to 2004. I can't help it, it's so pretty and I always want to save it for the perfect picture. Well, let me tell you something, that day rarely comes and all you end up with is a huge stack of paper going to waste (and in my case, a husband who asks, "don't you have enough paper?")

Carla posted a sketch challenge on Lil' Scrappers and here is my interpretation. The layout is about my son who would get nosebleeds all the time.

There's this new "Photography" tag and Carla chose me as one of her victims, I mean, good buddies willing to do this tag with her ;)

Here are the rules:

So here is my picture:

Luckily it was nothing embarrassing ;) This is one of the many pictures I took of a plate of cookies I baked. I was in a recipe swap and needed a half decent picture of the cookies for the recipe card. It's a yummy chocolate chip-nut recipe, they never last long in my house. Unfortunately it's because I'll eat the darn things for breakfast (not good).

I never know who to tag because I hate to impose on people. And because breaking the rules is kinda fun (LOL)and it works to my advantage - I am only picking 3 people....

1. Dorrie - an awesome gal who I don't chat with nearly as often as I would like to.

2. Leah - I love her blog, love her work (gorgeous stuff) and we've got lots in common (even though she doesn't know it).

3. Nicole - She left a comment on my blog and so I checked out her blog which has some cool tutorials (gotta try out the handmade flower) and looks fun.

It may sound cheesy but I like most of the sketches so I browsed through them until I found one that inspired me tonight. Seeing as how I am tired, I am a slow scrapper and it's late, I wanted something quick so I chose sketch 91. What I love is that I was able to use up my stash! That's what it is all about for me this year. Using up all that stuff I have been hoarding! So, here is my card using WRMK Tuscan Meadow (2005):

I can't be the only one to drag my butt out of bed today and go back to work. Although I hate to admit it, getting back to a routine can be nice. Seeing as how I am going to be a single mom for a while I am not looking forward to having to be completely responsible for *everything* but a schedule sure comes in handy.

Anyhow, let's look at some scrappy stuff. I would like to start with a card I created (late) last night. It is based on the CPS sketch #98 which you can see HERE.

Welcome to 2009!

And how is the New Year working out for you so far? To be honest, I started the year off feeling disorganized so I started by cleaning and organizing my entire scrap space. It feels great! Except for the fact that I have come to realize that I have way too many scrap supplies and patterned paper that I have hoarded and are starting to accumulate at alarming rates. So I made my first scrap related resolution, it is as follows:

1. Use as much of my stuff as possible! (so I can buy more...)

Besides, I am instituting a scrap budget (eek! I know!) so I will have to be choosy about what I buy. I would love to get our line of credit paid off, and of course that is easier said then done, especially when I am in the middle of buying new furniture for the house LOL.

Anyhow, anybody have any scrap related resolutions? I would love to hear them if you do! That being said, I was inspired by Triple the Sketch blog (sketch #38) to create this layout, you can find their site (and the sketch) HERE.

The End of 2008

Wow, another year done. It seems like only yesterday (for me) that we were running around worrying about Y2K and whether or not the computers would all crash. I spent New Years dressed in shimmery silver (along with several of my friends) and we drank and celebrated the "new millennium". Tonight I will be celebrating quietly at home with some close friends, the kids, a few beers and a big meal. I hope everyone enjoys their own celebrations, whatever they may be, and I'll see you in 2009!

I'd like to start off with the 2S4Y Bonus Sketch. I had so much fun with this one I made 2 cards. The bonus for me was that I used up some older paper (Imagination Project, Center City Designs - Sutton Place line) that I haven't touched in ages and thought I would never find the right project for it. Well, voila!

So, are you still enjoying the holidays or are you back to the regular day-to-day? I took some vacation time so I am off work until January 5th. I am loving being lazy, sitting here in my pajamas with no plans for the day other than *maybe* going in for a haircut.

Do you like scraplifting?

Everybody is so crazy about sketches but one of my faves is actually scraplifting. I will browse through sites and magazines until I find a layout that grabs my attention and I will base my own layout on it. I am not one of those ladies that can pull a Picasso out of her butt on a daily basis, I need help (often) LOL. Found a website that actually challenges people to lift somebody elses creation. First of all, isn't this layout by Kelly Goree absolutely stunning? I *LOVE* it. I also love the technique she used on her picture, using a BW photo and then adding a splash of colour. The thing is, I have no idea how to do this. Do you use special markers, some cool software program.... I dunno.

I can't be the only person who sees albums (created by others) and *wishes* that I could make one just as cool.... I don't know where these fine ladies pull their inspiration from but I SO need to try my hand at making an album like this:

If you scroll through the December posts by Layle Koncar you'll see some YUMMY pages in her December Mini-album. What an awesome idea!! I am just a little PO'd that I didn't find this back in November when I could have done something about it. And will I ever remember come next year?

Ho Ho Holy Cow, it's almost Christmas!

Went out this morning to get some last minute stocking stuffers and run a few errands. I had one of my fave pictures framed (finally) and it looks gorgeous. It is titled "Serengeti" by Steve Forney. This picture does not do the real print any justice.....

Then I had to stop by Costco and exchange a globe I bought for my son (and myself LOL). It is called the SmartGlobe and after one day my 5-year old son can already find the 7 continents. It's fun and a great learning tool.

I made a card using CPS sketch #96 (you can find the sketch HERE), was quick and fun but I am sorta so-so about the card. I tend to be really slow when I do anything crafty and this time I tried to be quick.

The bottom right corner is actually purple velvet, sorta hard to tell from the picture.

I knew things were getting hectic, guess I didn't realize just how much!! I am going to have to blame it on the holidays. Anybody else rushing around trying to get things done before the "big day"? I absolutely hate holiday shopping, people are crazy! But somehow I find myself braving the traffic so I can find the new vtech kids camera that's on sale at Zellers. (I'll probably just go to Wal-Mart and show them the flyer, can you say price match?)

Anyhow, on to some scrappy stuff.... I haven't been creative in quite a while so I'll stick with showing you some fun stuff I found while surfing this evening...

Well, it's snowed like crazy last night. I shovelled once and the driveway needed it again in the morning. Both the kids are sick and have fevers. It's almost 10:00pm, I've got one layout done and I think I may start another...why not eh?

Back in Action!

Yeah, was pretty darn busy this past week (or two) but I'm back! I attended an online crop at Lil Scrappers but didn't get much accomplished. I was able to complete two layouts (only posted one) and one set of cards.

And today I got another Christmas card completed, inspired by Laura's sketch at 2S4Y! I flipped the sketch on it's side. Pictures not great, bad lighting in this office at night ;)

Fully immersed in Fall

Yep, Fall is here (with a vengeance). The weather is cool and rainy, the sun has disappeared and the wind is blowing a multitude of yellow and red leaves out across my backyard......

On a positive note, my little guy (who will be 5 years old next month) did his TaeKwonDo testing this afternoon and now has his green stripe. He'll be a green belt before he is 6! More positive news, we are getting a cat! We did have a dog but unfortunately had to bring him back to the breeder. Both dh and I have had cats while growing up so we know what we are getting into. Here is a (bad) picture of the little dude I'll be picking up next weekend, he's a Seal Lynx Point Siamese:

Remember those Prima Flowers....

That I complained about last week?? If not, you can find the post HERE. They cost about $3-4 for a pack of two? Well, I went out and bought some material and made a flower. It's pretty rough but I think I can improve upon it. I bought 0.3 metres of each material (each cost about $2) and I could probably make a dozen or more flowers with the amount of material I bought...... Here's a picture of my very first homemade frabric flower, I am going to go back and buy some plain material (no pattern) and try that out next, maybe a denim and another corduroy along with some plain broadloom:

Scrappy Site of the Week

I found this page by Hero Arts and just *HAD* to post it. I absolutely *love* the cards, I am so going to use them as inspiration for my next card(s). The technique is to use office supplies (in this case, labels) on cards. Really cool, go check it out!!

Weekends just pass too quickly.... I am going to try and scrap today but I have some gardening that needs to get done before the really cold weather kicks in. Plus the kids need some fresh air too. Before I head off, here are a few goodies for you!

These "hot" new flowers from Prima... couldn't you just buy some fabric at Wal-Mart and make your own for a fraction of the cost? I admit they are pretty cool looking, but honestly....

The next time I am anywhere near fabric I am going to buy some (WM always has the little bins with scraps) and try this out myself. Anybody else with me on this? It has been a hell of a week and it's not over for me yet. I'm going to pst a few quickies and then I am off to relax and probably call it an early night.

I did not get to Round 2 of the So You Think You Can Stamp contest. It's hard to compete (in my opinion) when you can vote for yourself as often as you like. I don't vote for myself and I work all day so as far as I am concerned, the odds were not on my side LOL...

Click on my layout to be linked to the Simple Scrapbooks "So You Think You Can Stamp" contest blog. There is a link on the blog for the voting site. I am one of the 16 finalists that moved on to round one and I am sooo excited! Apparently you can vote as often as you like so I am a little worried because I don't have the "following" that some do, but I am hoping that you would be willing to drop a vote my way, my handle is BELBA.

Voting starts today and lasts until Thursday the 18th. There are 16 people in Round One and only 12 will advance to Round 2. Your votes would really help, I appreciate it - Thanks!

Here is my layout:

I don't have any "true" two-step stamps so what I did was use some of my gel-a-tins star stamps to create a layered star. I stamped the outline using a larger stamp and then using a patterned smaller stamp for inside. The wrought iron flourish in the corner is by Technique Tuesday and what I did there was use the reverse side of the clear stamp to create a coloured outline and then flipped it over to use the stamp. Creates a nice coloured outline :)

It's always fun to find a new blog to check out, well here aretwo that I came across this morning that have a mission! The crusade against word verification (WV)!

Does the blog word verification make you crazy? Kath sure doesn't like it either. here is an excerpt from her blog:

Haven't been scrapping all that much lately, things have been so busy. That being said, this week the plan is to do the "big clean" of the scrap room and hopefully get myself organized and some mojo flowin'....

I did do a layout and a card this past weekend, using the Lil Scrappers August kit. If you've got boys (and even if you don't) this is one yummy kit to get!! Here is the card I made, it was quick and simple and leaves me wanting to make more.

How many of you are trying to eat better, exercise, reduce-reuse-recycle? We have recently started to eat organic (as often as possible, choices at groceries stores aren't always great), try our hand at eating clean and making better environmental choices as well. I try to use less electricity, more natural cleaning products, I compost and recycle etc... I'm not obsessive but once you make the effort to move in that direction I find that it becomes easier and I personally feel good about those choices and the impact it will ultimately have on my children.

Slow Weekend

Well it was a grey and overcast, rainy day. Didn't do much at all, hung out with the kids and didn't get much done in the way of scrapbooking. Watched a couple of movies, my hubby loves those cheesy B-movies so we spent the past 2 hours watching Starship Troopers 3. It was cheesy but I got sucked into watching it, and I actually was entertained....

Now on to some good stuff :)

What a hectic week

Well, we're back from Niagara Falls (expensive, overpriced, overrated...) and had a nice time. We are already making plans to go back, just the adults so we can hit all the haunted houses (including the famous "Nightmares"), the massive water park and of course, enjoy a few drinks and laughs sans kids.

August Long Weekend

I almost forgot it's a civic holiday Monday. We are heading to Niagara falls this weekend for some much needed "down time". Plan on visiting the Ripley's Museum, Wax House, and of course a trip on Maid Of the Mist. Has anybody been to Niagara Falls (Ontario) recently? I have a 3 and 4 year old so need to keep them entertained... I have some blog candy ready to mail out, just post some sight-seeing suggestions for me in the comments section so I can plan and prepare our two days away, I will pick a name (by random) on Saturday night.

Yay! The weekend is here. It's not like I have any special plans but I get so excited just knowing that the alarm clock won't be set for 5:00 a.m. and I don't *have* to get up. Somehow though, my big boy is up with the birds... so I just let him go down to the family room and watch Spongebob while the rest of us sleep just a little longer. It still feels like the weekend....

I took some time off work to just RELAX, plus tomorrow is a holiday so this is like one big, fat weekend for me! The sad part is that I have hardly scrapped at all. I think being terminally tired saps you of all will to create and then when you get some time (like me right now) you spend it cleaning, doing laundry, chatting on msn.... what am I thinking??

Anyhow, I had submitted some cards for the papercrafts Gallery Idol but after seeing the very, very many *gorgeous* cards submitted, it's no surprise to me that I wasn't chosen. That being said, my good friend Carla is in the top 20 and I will be cheering her on the whole way. Here are the cards I submitted:

Well, we just got back from a nice dinner out with friends and then a movie. Went to see the "new" Indiana Jones movie. It was allright, I didn't think it was the best action movie I have ever watched but it didn't suck either (thank God).

I was feeling the mojo this morning

Well, I didn't have creative inspiration spilling through me but I did pull out enough mojo to do Kazan's card sketch from "2 Sketches 4 You". Got to use some yummy MME "Tres Jolie" and some of my "older" SR chipboard.
