Happy Monday?

I can't be the only one to drag my butt out of bed today and go back to work. Although I hate to admit it, getting back to a routine can be nice. Seeing as how I am going to be a single mom for a while I am not looking forward to having to be completely responsible for *everything* but a schedule sure comes in handy.

Anyhow, let's look at some scrappy stuff. I would like to start with a card I created (late) last night. It is based on the CPS sketch #98 which you can see HERE.

CPS Sketch #98

Supplies:

  • SEI Chick-a-Doodle paper, rub-ons and die cut frame
  • Oval and "joy" cut with Cricut "Opposites Attract" cartridge

Spellbinders Blog Frenzy

starts today... check it out at their blog!

Winner of Blog Candy!

I wanted to do this last night after I finished my card but quite honestly, I was pooped!! I really wanted to get info on how to do those darn BW photos with the bits of colour and the only person who actually sent me anything, or posted about anything, was Carla so I am going to send her a little something just because (I can..). Anyhow, without further adieu, the winner is:

The End of 2008

Wow, another year done. It seems like only yesterday (for me) that we were running around worrying about Y2K and whether or not the computers would all crash. I spent New Years dressed in shimmery silver (along with several of my friends) and we drank and celebrated the "new millennium". Tonight I will be celebrating quietly at home with some close friends, the kids, a few beers and a big meal. I hope everyone enjoys their own celebrations, whatever they may be, and I'll see you in 2009!

I'd like to start off with the 2S4Y Bonus Sketch. I had so much fun with this one I made 2 cards. The bonus for me was that I used up some older paper (Imagination Project, Center City Designs - Sutton Place line) that I haven't touched in ages and thought I would never find the right project for it. Well, voila!

Here is the 2S4Y Bonus Sketch by Katie Anderson:

I flipped the sketch on it's side and created these 2 cards. I am not the best photographer but I think these turned out pretty good!

Happy Holidays

So, are you still enjoying the holidays or are you back to the regular day-to-day? I took some vacation time so I am off work until January 5th. I am loving being lazy, sitting here in my pajamas with no plans for the day other than *maybe* going in for a haircut.
So, I was surfing the blogs again today and found this gem on the Pink Paislee site. This is gorgeous and what a great idea, I sooo have to try this! Check out their blog for better pictures and don't forget to visit their blog on January 1st for a birthday bash!

Another pagemaps card

I liked the sketch so much I made another card using some BG:

Supplies:

BG Sugared pop and chipboard
"Oh baby" using Cricut ( Zooballoo)
Hero Arts stamp "Old French Writing"

2 Sketches 4 You card

Here is Laura's sketch #16

Here's my card, I used K & Co (Amy Butler - Lotus) supplies:

Designer Call at Sketch This!

The chosen designers will be on the design team for 1 year. (Jan 09- Dec 09) There will be 2 teams--- 5 designers for the layout team and 5 designers for the card team. See the blog site for further details.

Do you like scraplifting?

Everybody is so crazy about sketches but one of my faves is actually scraplifting. I will browse through sites and magazines until I find a layout that grabs my attention and I will base my own layout on it. I am not one of those ladies that can pull a Picasso out of her butt on a daily basis, I need help (often) LOL. Found a website that actually challenges people to lift somebody elses creation. Check it out!!

Basic Grey Sketches/PageMaps

Here is a sketch from the PageMaps site (April 2008)

(sketch by Becky Fleck)

My layout. Not the best scan in the world but it'll do LOL. I used the Lil Scrappers August Kit (All SEI Chick-a-Doo line).

Techniques (Blog candy)

First of all, isn't this layout by Kelly Goree absolutely stunning? I *LOVE* it. I also love the technique she used on her picture, using a BW photo and then adding a splash of colour. The thing is, I have no idea how to do this. Do you use special markers, some cool software program.... I dunno.

(layout by Kelly Goree)

I would love it if you would leave a comment or link on how to do this particular technique so that I can start trying it out myself. I have Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6.0 but to be honest I haven't really used it yet, I am scared of it LOL...

I threw a couple of items together as a RAK, for those that leave a comment. I will draw a name next Sunday evening. Thanks!

Goodnight, *Heidi*

A few quick goodies

I was "browsing" and found a few cool things I thought I would share.

Crocheted flowers
I have no real need for these as I rarely make "girly" layouts and I have enough primas to last me years but I think they are gorgeous..... would really add some wow factor to a layout (or card).

Origami snowflake
Isn't this gorgeous? Check out Virginia's post on the Scrapalicious blog for instructions.

I Am a Scrapaholic - Paper Christmas Tree

Another yummy project for those of you with patience LOL! Isn't this gorgeous? I love the faux snow. Check out their blog for instructions on how to make this.

Another yummy card blog to check out!

Was blog hopping and found this gem on the "Running With Scissors" blog, some absolutely beautiful cards!!

(card by Leslie Miller)

The countdown is on....

It's late, I should be in bed. Seeing as how I will be up for a little while yet I may as well post on the blog, especially since I have been somewhat negligent the past few weeks...
Cooooool albums!
I can't be the only person who sees albums (created by others) and *wishes* that I could make one just as cool.... I don't know where these fine ladies pull their inspiration from but I SO need to try my hand at making an album like this:

If you scroll through the December posts by Layle Koncar you'll see some YUMMY pages in her December Mini-album. What an awesome idea!! I am just a little PO'd that I didn't find this back in November when I could have done something about it. And will I ever remember come next year?

If you go to Ali Edwards blog, she has a couple of posts on how to create your album. Here and here.

And even more cool, I found this blog by Leah Killian with a gorgeous example of a mini album. And by leaving a comment on her blog you earn yourself a shot at winning some Cosmo Cricket yummies.

Featured Card Sites (of the week)

Every now and again I get to take some time and visit blogs I don't get to all the time. One of the ones that never disappoints is Jennifer's. She always has gorgeous cards posted, inspiration when I want to do something simple yet beautiful. If you get a chance you should pop by!

(card by Jennifer Roach)

Another card site that I never get tired of peeking at is "Pickled Paper Designs", Amy creates some absolutely gorgeous cards!

(card by Amy Sheffer)

Photo/Card holder by Danielle Flanders

Well, I love her work, and this little gem is no exception. Check out Danielle's blog for instructions on how to make your own.

New (to me) blog site!

I have already subscribed, because I need all the help I can get LOL. Found this blog called "Method Playground" which challenges you to try new techniques. How awesome is that? If there are any blogs that you find truly inspiring when it comes to creating, please share with me!!

Last, but not least

Pop by the Prairie paper & Ink blog and check out the homemade snowflakes. perfect for scrapbook layouts, cards or whatever... LOL

Thanks for stopping by!

Fully immersed in Fall

Yep, Fall is here (with a vengeance). The weather is cool and rainy, the sun has disappeared and the wind is blowing a multitude of yellow and red leaves out across my backyard......

On a positive note, my little guy (who will be 5 years old next month) did his TaeKwonDo testing this afternoon and now has his green stripe. He'll be a green belt before he is 6! More positive news, we are getting a cat! We did have a dog but unfortunately had to bring him back to the breeder. Both dh and I have had cats while growing up so we know what we are getting into. Here is a (bad) picture of the little dude I'll be picking up next weekend, he's a Seal Lynx Point Siamese:

Remember those Prima Flowers....

That I complained about last week?? If not, you can find the post HERE. They cost about $3-4 for a pack of two? Well, I went out and bought some material and made a flower. It's pretty rough but I think I can improve upon it. I bought 0.3 metres of each material (each cost about $2) and I could probably make a dozen or more flowers with the amount of material I bought...... Here's a picture of my very first homemade frabric flower, I am going to go back and buy some plain material (no pattern) and try that out next, maybe a denim and another corduroy along with some plain broadloom:

Scrappy Site of the Week

I found this page by Hero Arts and just *HAD* to post it. I absolutely *love* the cards, I am so going to use them as inspiration for my next card(s). The technique is to use office supplies (in this case, labels) on cards. Really cool, go check it out!!

And I will finish off quickly with a little reminder that if you need some help in the journaling department, or need a little kick in the pants to get going, then pop by Journaler's Junction! The latest journaling topic is "Just the facts, Ma'am" - check it out HERE!
That's all for now!
